PLUG

noun 1. a piece of solid material fitting tightly into a hole and blocking it up

verb (plugs, plugging, plugged) 1. block or fill in (a hole or cavity), insert (something) into an opening so as to fill it

I’m a cultural critic with an interest in representations of race and gender in media and pop culture and on this blog I discuss critical social issues and my goal is to encourage civic participation. I write mostly about the otherside of the story that either is dismissed, or simply is not told. My intention is to PLUG the holes in the narrative. My search for what it means to be “Black”, i.e. the otherside, within a Dutch context is what drives my writing. The questions that sparked off this search are: Is there such a thing as a “Black consciousness”? And, if so, how is it expressed? This search is as much about plugging the holes in the body of knowledge I possess as it is about finding answers.

I write about musicians, artists, filmmakers, writers, painters & pussylickers, graphic designers & dicksuckers, animators & innovators. And I whole-heartedly believe that art is not for art’s sake. Art is of and for the people.

If you think you’re PLUG-compatible and want to PLUG in, or if you’d like to PLUG some holes in my narrative write a comment or you can send me an email.

Now go PLUG yourself

Note: I retain all rights to the original material I have written and published unless stated otherwise. Use of said material in any setting (acadæmic or otherwise) without my signed written permission constitutes a violation of international copyright law.

  1. Hello. Followed you here because you liked the What Would Jesus Drive track on HypeEm and we’re the label and I do nerdy things like this.

Anyway, we’re giving away the whole Ep for free on the website: http://www.whatwouldjesusdrive.co so i thought i’d let you know. Apologies for posting in here but couldn’t find an email.

We’ll also be giving more mp3s away with each single release, so if you still like them join the mailing list and we’ll let you know.

    Ta.

    • Thanks for the heads up. I’ll hop down to the website and help spread the word.

I feel honoured. I’ll pen a reply soon. I’ll have to think long and hard about 10 things that I haven’t shared with bloggers yet.
